Dr. Claire E. Nelson

Dr. Claire Nelson is Chief Ideation Leader of The Futures Forum, a research and education not-for-profit practice specializing in bringing the power of strategic foresight, and the discipline of sustainability engineering to challenges facing organizations and communities. Nelson, named among the Top 50 Women Futurists on Forbes.com, is the convener of the NGO Start-Up Space Futures Forum, which aims to bring together a Space STEM and Advocacy community for the Africa, Caribbean and Pacific countries. A sought after speaker, Dr. Nelson has served on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Futures Studies and is an active member of the Association of Professional Futurists and the World Futures Studies Federation, where she is Editor-At-Large of its flagship HUMAN FUTURES Magazine.

Before establishing The Futures Forum, Dr. Nelson, the first woman engineer hired at the Inter-American Development Bank, held a variety of positions over a thirty-year career there which spanned strategic portfolio development; program identification and management; institutional assessments; and technical feasibility studies across a variety of sectors including: renewable energy, public sector modernization, and private sector development. Dr. Nelson is Founding President of the Institute of Caribbean Studies and recognized Architect of the Campaign for National Caribbean American Heritage Month. Nelson, who is an award-winning writer, holds a Bachelors and Masters in Industrial Engineering from the SUNY at Buffalo and Purdue University respectively, and a Doctorate in Engineering Management from the George Washington University. Honors received include: Commendation in the US Congressional Record, an Outstanding Alumni Award from Purdue University, and being honored as a White House Champion of Change in 2012.
